Google Analytics and Tag Manager to measure conversions on a Joomla! site
How to integrate Google Tag Manager into Joomla, from Yootheme, T3 and Gantry templates to custom builds, to track sessions, clicks, contact forms, ecommerce events and conversion quality.
At the Web Marketing Festival in Rimini I brought a topic that was already my obsession and still is: measure to decide. A Joomla! site that does not track conversions is a site flying blind.
The talk is very hands-on: how to install and configure Google Tag Manager on Joomla regardless of the template — Yootheme, T3, Gantry or custom — and how to use it to track what counts. Sessions and clicks, yes, but above all the events that matter: contact forms (at the time typically Fabrik) and VirtueMart ecommerce events. There is also room for an often-ignored metric, the SERP Bounce, which says a lot about the quality of the match between query and page.
It is the seed of everything I still do today with GA4 and tracking: the tools have changed, the principle has not. A data point that does not change a decision is just furniture.
