# Pushing Magento performance

**#SEOCMS · Bologna — May 6, 2016**

> Better SEO also comes from faster pages. How to optimise Magento performance through server cache, PHP compilation, realpath_cache_size and image SEO to improve visibility and sales.

At #SEOCMS 2016 I tackled a side of SEO too often left out of the conversation about content:
**speed**. On a Magento ecommerce — heavy by nature — every second of waiting is ranking lost and
carts going cold.

The talk digs into the engine. On the **server** side: caching with **Redis**, **PHP compilation**,
and tuning parameters that are often ignored, like `realpath_cache_size`, which make a concrete
difference on Magento. On the **content** side: **image** SEO, which on a catalogue of thousands of
products weighs on performance as much as on visibility in image search.

The thesis is simple and still holds today: performance is not a technicality to hand off to
sysadmins, it is a lever for both SEO and sales. A fast site gets seen more and converts more.
